Well if you're an early Life of Agony fan then don't buy this.
Almost too much of an eclectic mix of lets go surfing and have
a dinner party while we're there.
Personally I just think it's a little bland, neither here or
there, which is a pity as KC's voice is one of the more versatile
ones of the heavy genre. Honeycomb, the first track is one of
the few standouts on this album, a good chorus with some nice
melodies, but after this you just get bored. If this album is
on in the background, you just forget it's there. Not a selling
point really.
This first solo effort feels as if it's full of pretension and
no real emotion, I don't say this 'cause there's no heaviness
here, I say it because it's plain boring. Sorry but songs about
Kurt Cobain don't do anyone any favors either. Died laughing,
nope, there's nothing funny if you just wasted money on this
CD.
Unlike the majority of bands of today, the Beastie Boys
waited until they actually had a decent back catalog of tunes
to put on a 'best of' record. One of the tunes omitted from
this is the song that the album is named after. Odd don't you
think?
My thinking behind this is that in their old age, the 'boys'
have changed their attitude towards some of the things mentioned
in that song, but who cares? Maybe just them, as the addition
of 'alive'is a kind of a breakbeat apology for smoking dope
and all the other things they have changed their minds about.
Other than that though, this has all the tunes you could want
if your the type that can't be bothered buying albums, just
in case there's a couple of songs on there you don't like.
Everyone has their own opinion, mine differs to yours and
Dead Prez have their own. There is no right or wrong, it's just
another point of view. The point of this paragraph comes later.
Musically they've gone out on a limb, Dead Prez are attacking
everyone. 'Hip Hop'aims at the stars of modern day R&B.
Vocalizing there discontent for the use of bikini clad women
and expensive cars. 'Mind Sex' goes off on one with a nauseous
rant about being modern men!? ummm ok If they we're really as
progressive as they think they are then they wouldn't have filled
there sleeve notes full of crap about the evil white race.
It's a shame that politics' have sullied my view regarding this
record as when I first heard the tune 'Hip Hop' I thought it
was one of the best new hip hop songs that I'd heard in a long
time.
Racism is a subject that allot of people try to be proactive
about. Dead Prez clearly aren't .
Bloody boring one of my work mates told me. Depressing shitte
she said. Aqua are a group she favors. More opinion's. But that's
what record reviews are.
This is a good record, miss apple is not as cynical as I had
led myself to believe. 'Get Gone' is a song with anger, not
melancholy.
Musically this is allot more experimental than her contemporaries,
melodies are more varied with good beats surrounded by great
piano and strings.
There are allot of elements that remind me of a beetle-esque
Sergeant Pepper. Listen to the end of 'Fast as you can' and
see if you get what I mean.
This is a record that's a bit fucked up, in a sarcastic way.
No way as flaky as I thought it would have been.
Thanks go out to boxman.co.uk for sending this to me well within
the 3-5 working days they said it would take.
2 months and three days later I'm still waiting.
Amazing, good stuff. Lots of heavy riffs backed with groovy
rhythm. Not allot else to say really. If you like heavy music
try this out. Probably the next big thing following in the footsteps
of other next big things like Will Haven and Deftones.
Put this in your cd draw of your computer, then real player
will tell you that it's Glassjaw, it'll tell you the name of
the album, and then it will tell you that it's a folk album?
If Leonard Norman Cohen sounded anything like Glassjaw I'm sure
I would have been a folk fan long ago.
This is a good record, it has a similar distain as the first
Deftones album, but let me stress that it doesn't sound like
the Deftones.
It's very heavy in parts with some amazingly varied vocal styles
to draw the feeling of the songs together. Allot of the songs
are based on relationships. A similarity they share with Fiona
Apple, also not folk!
